Byron Dickens for County Commissioner: Mission Statement
“Building a brighter future for Jackson County.”
At the heart of Byron Dickens' campaign for County Commissioner is a commitment to fostering a thriving, resilient, and inclusive community. Byron Dickens believes in harnessing the strengths of Jackson County's residents to drive economic growth, improve infrastructure, enhance healthcare access for our veterans, and ensure preparedness for any challenges that come our way.
Byron is dedicated to:
Economic Development and Job Creation:
Problem: Jackson County, like many rural areas, faces economic challenges including limited job opportunities and a reliance on a few key industries. The closure of businesses and lack of investment in the region can lead to economic stagnation and high unemployment rates.
Plans:
Attract New Businesses: Effectively working to capitalize on tourism utilizing our historical district to create innovative ways to attract hospitality and restaurant businesses. Implement incentives for new industries to set up in Jackson County, including tax breaks, grants, and support for small businesses.
Support Existing Businesses: Provide resources and programs to help existing businesses expand and innovate.
Workforce Development: Partner with our local educational institutions to offer training and certification programs aligned with the needs of local employers, thus equipping residents with skills that match available jobs.
More resources & healthcare services for our Veterans
Problem: Access to quality healthcare is a significant concern for the veterans of Jackson County. Rural areas often face challenges such as a shortage of healthcare providers, long distances to VA medical facilities, and limited specialized care.
Plan:
Healthcare Facilities: Work to attract more Community Care healthcare providers to the area and support the expansion of local clinics and hospital services.
Telehealth Services: Promote the use of telehealth services to provide veterans with access to mental health/medical consultations and specialized care without the need for extensive travel.
Preventive Health Programs: Work with the local clinic to aid in the community health programs focused on preventive care, including screenings, vaccinations, and health education campaigns to improve overall public health.
Infrastructure Improvement
Problem: The county's infrastructure, including roads, high-speed broadband internet, and public utilities, requires significant upgrades. Poor infrastructure is hindering economic growth, reducing quality of life, and posing safety risks.
Solution:
Transportation: Invest in the repair and maintenance of roads and bridges, ensuring they meet safety standards and support efficient transportation.
Public Utilities: Continue the work to upgrade water and sewage systems to ensure they are reliable and capable of supporting both residential and industrial needs.
Digital Infrastructure: Expand high-speed internet access to all areas of the county to support education, business, and healthcare services.
